Community service is a multi-faceted mechanism with which all people can become involved. Differences are made, not only through financial support, but by other philanthropic efforts such as devoting one's time to mentoring/tutoring programs, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, and hospitals, to name a few. A community cannot thrive without the support, love, and consistent help of its inhabitants. Here, at the W.E.B. Du Bois College House, students are involved in a myriad of activities which encompass community outreach. Some of their efforts range from participation in after- school programs, clothing and food drives, AIDS and Breast Cancer Walks, as well as forums that help to inform individuals about ways in which they can help another person and their community thrive. While communities need to be strengthened from within in order to develop and exist in a healthy environment, innovative and reliable forms of assistance should not be limited to community residents solely. Those from outside communities need to be involved as well. The students and staff of the W.E.B. Du Bois College House understand why there needs to be commitment to the people and environments, thus impacting our dedication to community outreach and uplift.
