African Rhythms performs at Thanksgiving Gala reception with Chantelle Smith ('06) Academic Chair, House Council. The 2003 Gala planning was headed by the Traditional Events Chair, Rachel Arnett ('07).

Comprised of undergraduate residents, the House Council is the student governing body for W.E.B. Du Bois College House. It serves as a complementary group for promoting unifying academic, social, and cultural activities for the residents. In addition to working with the House Dean and the GA Council on the Soul of Du Bois Conference, House Council is responsible for the planning and implementation of several key events including: book sales, study breaks, the annual Thanksgiving and Valentine's Day celebration, etc. The House Dean works closely with the House Council to ensure appropriate use of House funds and to get their input on most staff hiring decisions, as well as changes and additions to House policies.

As Du Bois leaders, House Council members are expected to be in good academic standing and with no history of disciplinary actions against them.
