Hello and welcome to the W.E.B. Du Bois College House's Politics and Cultural Pluralism (PCP) Program. With the presidential election being this fall, this coming year promises to be a very exciting and unique time for the PCP Program, not to mention one that offers a number of possibilities for PCP participants to explore some of the many issues surrounding this historical event. Some of the years planned activities include a voters registration drive, several guest speakers, political debates of diverse issues, dinner discussions, movie and documentary viewings of relevant content and much more.
The PCP Program has been very successful in the first two years of its existence. Scholars throughout the nation have come to discuss different issues that concern minority communities in America. Among these guests hav been Shanta Driver, National Director of the Coalition to Defend Affirmative Action, Integration, and the Fight for Equality and Dr. Maya Rockeymoore, Vice President of Research and Programs with the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation. The PCP Program was also responsible for pioneering a mentoring program geared towards helping at risk youths in the West Philadelphia High School where members of the program each selected to mentor a student.
As the 2006-07 director of the PCP Program I plan, with the help and support of PCP members and participants, to continue the high standards set by this program’s preceding directors in providing quality and effective programming and services to the W.E.B. Du Bois College House, the University of Penn’s campus and the entire community at large. Our hope is that you will join us in making a difference!
