Two of Adkins' recitals have been recently held at Penn. Relay Hymn, which was exhibited at the ICA in 1999, was for Robert Hamilton Adkins (1927-1995), the artist's father who coached Alexandria Virginia's Parker-Gray High School track teams to many victories at the Penn Relays. Darkwater (Recital in Four Dominions) Terry Adkins after W.E.B. Du Bois was exhibited at the Arthur Ross Gallery spring 2003 in celebration of the centennial publication of The Souls of Black Folk. Terry Adkins is also an accomplished musician and composer whose orchestral works were premiered by the New World Symphony of Miami in 2000. He performs regularly with his Lone Wolf Recital Corps, a musically based performance collaborative with revolving membership. Professor Adkins and his wife Merele have two children, Titus Hamilton Adkins and Turiya Hamlet Adkins.
