José Loya is a 5th year Ph.D Sociology candidate within the School of Arts and Sciences. He is from Los Angeles, California and is the oldest of four sibilings. Jose is a first generation college graduate. 

José graduated from Brown University in 2010 with Bachelor's degreee in Economics and Urban Studies. Upon graduating, he served in several capacities related to affordable housing and asset building. He created and managed savings and credit building programs for low and moderate-income families in Miami. In addition, José recieved his Master's in Statistics from the Wharton School of Business in 2018.

Jose is passionate about studying Urban Poverty and Income Stratification. In his spare time, Jose enjoys playing basketball, reading graphic novels, and exploring different neighborhoods throughout Philadelphia.
