One of Dean Rhina's favorite initiatives at Du Bois is her weekly Trending Tuesdays Dean's Series. Trending Tuesday was adopted as a pedagogical tool to observe what is trending in the media, including social media while exploring themes through a social justice lens. It has earned the Campaign for Community grant and the Year of Media grant at the University of Pennsylvania for its support of students of color and ability to connect and collaborate with campus and community partners. On Tuesdays different hosts facilitate conversations that encourage intimate and candid dialogue with students. Facilitators have included community activists, spoken word artists, campaign organizers and doctoral students. It has also attracted directors and associate directors from centers such as the LGBT center, the Center for Hispanic Excellence: La Casa Latina, Penn Violence Prevention & Education, Pan Asian American Cultural House and the Center for Minority Serving Institutions.
